What I take out of this is that a MVD can only be recorded by the server? It's impossible for clients to record MVDs?

Yes , clients can't record MVDs if server has xp_maxMVD "0".

Thank you Crazy for your reply.

So in order to let clients record MVDs the server must set xp_maxMVD to something unequal to 0 and then the clients are able to record MVDs? Is the clientside command the same as recording normal demos? (\record demofile)

Yes server can be set to 1-2.
client record commands: startmvd & stopmvd
